My Story

Macombs is a Black-owned, Harlem-based writing studio.

Nia T. Evans | Writer, Journalist, Advocate.

Hi! I’m Nia. I run Macombs Studio, a writing & editorial studio for nonprofits. I tackle the writing needs of nonprofits, like case studies, impact reports, and research studies, and turn them into dynamic storytelling vehicles.

I love helping to define projects from ideation to rollout. With ten years inside the sector and a journalism background, my expertise is all about ethical storytelling and transforming wonky topics into stories that can be seen, heard, and felt.

Shaped by nonprofits and magazines

I am a journalist who began my career in nonprofit advocacy so I consider both worlds to be home. Grassroots impact has always been at the forefront of my reporting, from covering on food kitchens contending with federal cuts to tracking national efforts to bail mothers out of jail. You can find more of those stories here. While reporting, I often lamented the gap between the critical stories nonprofits had to tell and the capacity they had to tell them.

Macombs Studio is an attempt to bridge that gap. My mission is to bring the sophistication of magazine journalism to nonprofit storytelling.

For nonprofits, a great story, packaged and distributed with care, can quite literally change lives. Together, we can craft stories that break through the noise and make the world a better place to live in.
